With a number of house holders extending their properties and a desire for high
amounts of glazing, it can sometimes be difficult to keep the area of openings
(windows, doors and roof lights) below the 25% of the floor area permitted under the
Building Regulations.
On numerous schemes we have been successfully able to “trade off” elements to
demonstrate thermal compliance without the need to sacrifice the desired aesthetics
of the overall design. Improvements in insulation values, heating systems or improved
window U values can all be used to demonstrate compliance for either the extension
or the building as a whole.
Please do not compromise a scheme when Building Control mention excessive
glazing – we have the answers to make it work.
