Under the provisions of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRFSO)
there is a requirement for any commercial property to have statutory Fire Safety
design and management information in place prior to the buildings first occupation.
This also applies to existing buildings. In many cases clients are only being
advised when projects are almost complete – forcing them to find extra last-minute
funding
Failure to do so can result in the prosecution of “responsible persons” under civil action and there has
been a number of high profile convictions. It is advisable to carry out this “audit” as part of the design
stage and not try to apply it retrospectively. Energy Access have the qualified staff to do this assessment
and ensure a design complies before it starts on site.
This assessment is also applicable to any existing premises that are open to the public.
